Bates 'very excited' about Clemson offer

Fayetteville (N.C.) Northwood Temple Academy 2018 power forward Immanuel Bates received an offer from Clemson on Thursday.

Bates was excited when he heard the news from his coach.

“I was very excited, knowing that the offer came from an ACC school,” Bates told The Clemson Insider. “I knew from that I was working hard already, so now I have to keep pushing myself.”

What does Bates like about head coach Brad Brownell and the Tigers?

“I don’t quite know coach Brownell that well, but he’s very good and very competitive,” Bates said. “And Clemson is a real nice school from the pictures I’ve seen.”

Bates plans to see Clemson in person soon.

“I hope to visit in a few weeks,” he said.

Clemson joined Charlotte, Cincinnati, James Madison, Middle Tennessee State, Northern Arizona, Old Dominion, Richmond, VCU and Virginia Tech on Bates’ offer sheet.

The 6-foot-9, 195-pounder doesn’t have any leaders in his recruitment at this time.

“As of right now, it’s pretty evened out in the recruitment,” Bates said, “so a school hasn’t really stood out to me yet.”

Bates transferred to Northwood Temple from Jack Britt High School over the summer. As a sophomore in 2015, Bates averaged 7.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while blocking 64 shots.
