Catching up with Jones

Clemson linebacker commit Mike Jones and IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) are in the midst of an undefeated season.

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with Jones about that and more.

“Everything’s going good,” Jones said. “We’re 5-0, our defense is healthy and has been improving every week.”

Jones feels good about his performance individually, as well.

“I’ve been playing really well so far,” Jones said. “As a team, everybody’s been doing their job, which has everybody balling.”

Jones has kept up with Clemson’s season, too, and likes the improvement he’s seen from the team.

“It’s good to see us continue to get better every week,” Jones said. “I think we should be at the top of our game sometime soon, if not already.”

What has Jones heard from Clemson’s coaches lately?

“Not too much,” he said. “Mostly just to keep on playing good and they can’t wait to see me up at Clemson.”

Jones plans to visit Clemson a couple of times before season’s end.

“I should be there this weekend (N.C. State) and rivalry week against South Carolina,” Jones said.

As for recruiting, the 6-foot-1, 210-pounder is working on several guys right now.

“Myles Sims, Brian Hightower, Taron Vincent and Xavier Thomas are the main guys I’m trying to get,” Jones said.

Jones, rated as the nation’s No. 9 outside linebacker by 247Sports, is Clemson’s lone commit in the class of 2018.
