Brownell updates Mitchell injury, previews season opener

Clemson head basketball coach Brad Brownell met with the media on Thursday to preview Friday’s season-opener against Georgia at the newly renovated Littlejohn Coliseum. The game is set to tip at 7 p.m.

Brownell also updated the media on starting point guard Shelton Mitchell, who suffered a meniscus tear in Monday’s practice. He had a scope on Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m very pleased with how our guys have been working and practicing. Certainly, there was a little bit of a setback as well a little bit this week with Shelton,” Brownell said. “I feel bad for him because I know how hard he has been working all of last season, and he had a great fall.

“But having said that, the surgery went well and he seems to be doing well. Hopefully, there will not be any setbacks.”

Brownell said he did not have a time frame for Mitchell’s return, but he was initially told two to four weeks so they will just watch and see how he progresses, but so far Brownell says he is off to a very good start.
