Cancer survivors Schmidt, Conner meet for the first time

Former Clemson pitcher Clate Schmidt and Pitt running back James Conner met prior to Saturday’s game between the No. 2 Tigers and Pitt at Clemson’s Memorial Stadium. It was the first face-to-face meeting between the two athletes, who both fought and survived Hodgkin lymphoma.

Schmidt, who led the Tigers to an ACC Championship last spring on the baseball diamond, reached out to Conner last December when the former ACC Player of the Year announced his diagnoses.

The two shared a brief conversation before Conner had to join his teammates out on the field.
