Jones will work to get 5-star Thomas back home to Clemson

Five-star defensive end Xavier Thomas announced Monday night he will be transferring to play his final season at IMG Academy in Florida. The Clemson Insider caught up with Clemson verbal commit Mike Jones, a linebacker, who attends IMG Academy, to get his thoughts.

“I’m glad to have him join our family. And now I have a better chance to get him back home to Clemson,” Jones told The Clemson Insider.

Jones has been in contact with Thomas over the past year trying to get him to join him with the Tigers. What does he think the Tigers’ chances are of landing Thomas?

“I think we have a good shot, but you never know,” replied Jones.

The 4-star linebacker enjoyed watching Clemson destroy South Carolina Saturday night.

“I had a great time watching us bully South Carolina,” said Jones.

The Clemson commit had a perfect season with IMG Academy this season.

“It ended good. We are 12-0 and we finished up great as a defense. We had five shutouts, four in a row and we finished out allowing only one touchdown to a very good Virginia team,” said Jones.

Jones plans to be back at Clemson soon.

“I am definitely trying to get up there when the new facility opens and are done for Junior Day,” he said.
