Venables says defense can be tougher, smarter

Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables spoke with the media following Wednesday’s 100-play scrimmage.

The Tigers’ coach said the defense had a lot of good and some bad moments in the scrimmage which was played in Death Valley. He also said there was a little bit of ugly, and they have a long ways to go, but they played with good effort.

“We have to play smarter at times and we have to play tougher at times, and other times we played smart and we played tough,” he said. “We have a long way to go, but it has been a good 10 practices now, really good 10 practices.”
