O'Daniel excited about starting senior season

The Clemson Insider spoke with Dorian O’Daniel after Wednesday evening’s scrimmage. Not only was O’Daniel one of the top performers on special teams, but he also transitioned into a starting linebacker position during the 2016 season. As his senior season approaches O’Daniel is excited to be a leader and hopefully have an important impact on the 2017-2018 season.

O’Daniel: “We just come out here and compete and try to do better than we did last scrimmage. A lot of little things we need to correct but collectively we just have to keep working, keep getting better. We still have a long way to go. Just a lot of little things, really confident going forward.”

How did you play today? Did you come up with any big plays?

O’Daniel: “Yeah I think I had a pretty good day. Two sacks, fumble recovery, (tackle for loss) and a couple of other plays I wasn’t really counting them off as I made them. But overall I think I had a pretty solid day.”

How are Tre (Lamar) and Shaq (Smith) doing now? Are they starting to get into their rhythm of play and not be caught up in thinking about what they’re trying to do all of the time?

O’Daniel: “Yeah that just comes with time and experience. This is the only time coaches are able to evaluate all of the players and like I said, it just comes with time. They’re obviously a lot more comfortable than they were a week ago, a month ago, etc, etc. But it’s all about improving and getting better each and every week.”

How does it feel now going into your senior season at Clemson?

O’Daniel: “It went by fast. The biggest thing for me was just patience. Just waiting behind all of the guys in front of me and just learning from those guys and just very confident you know in what it takes to be a great player. Just really happy that it’s here and being able to lead the young guys and show them what it takes.”
