Three on top for Peach State 4-star

Four-star cornerback Kyler McMichael isn’t too far away from the stretch run of his recruitment, and Clemson is favorably positioned with the Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian product heading into it.

McMichael told The Clemson Insider recently that he plans to announce his top five schools before the start of his senior season and commit midway through the season.

He said that Clemson, Georgia and Tennessee are his top three schools at this time.

“They’re definitely a top school,” McMichael said of Clemson.

“The facilities are awesome,” McMichael responded when asked why Clemson is standing out. “All the coaches are good. Of course a national championship team.”

Clemson offered McMichael, a top-100 prospect and one of the Peach State’s best players, in December. But Clemson began communicating with and recruiting him well before then.

Michael said he hears from Clemson on a daily basis — a lot from defensive backs coach Mike Reed and some from the head man Dabo Swinney himself.

“He’s very sincere,” McMichael said of Swinney. “He’s a nice guy. Probably the most energetic coach I’ve been around.”

Reed, meanwhile, has established a good rapport with McMichael.

“Coach Reed, I’ve had a relationship with him for a long time, so I’m pretty well off with him,” McMichael said.

Like Clemson, Georgia and Tennessee have long been involved with McMichael.

“Not too far away from home,” McMichael said of what he likes about the two schools. “I’ve had a relationship with them for a long time. Small schools, great education.”

McMichael last visited Clemson for the Tigers’ elite junior day in January and said he could return within the next month.

In addition to Clemson, Georgia and Tennessee, the well-built 6-foot-1, 185-pound standout athlete has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech among others.

McMichael has been to Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia Tech over the last couple of months. He will visit Florida State, which offered in late February, this week, while Alabama and LSU are others in the mix.

McMichael is rated as an athlete by the major recruiting services, but Clemson is recruiting him as a corner. He is ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 2 athlete and No. 76 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
