Changes to men's basketball staff are imminent

The Clemson Insider got word Friday morning that a coaching change on the men’s basketball staff is imminent and an announcement could happen by Saturday afternoon prior to the Orange & White Spring Game.

Clemson head coach Brad Brownell has called for a 1 p.m. press conference on Saturday in what Clemson is calling a season-wrap up press conference. However, we know through a separate source that a coaching change will be addressed by Brownell at the press conference.

From what we have gathered to this point, we were told one of the coaches’ offices has already been cleaned out and from what we have gathered from two other sources is that Mike Winiecki will no longer be a part of Brownell’s staff.

If you recall, Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich told the media on March 28 he expected changes to the men’s basketball staff, which he said he discussed with Brownell in their end of the year meeting before bringing Brownell back for an eighth season.

Winiecki just wrapped up his seventh season as an assistant coach at Clemson, his fifth as Brownell’s associate head coach.

Winiecki, who followed Brownell from Wright State to Clemson in 2010, was named associate head coach prior to the beginning of the 2012-‘13 season. Winiecki was in charge of Clemson’s post players and coordinated the Tigers’ recruiting efforts.

We are not sure at this time if any other staff changes will be announced on Saturday. Stay tuned to TCI as the situation unfolds.
