Hialeah (Fla.) Mater Academy four-star Mikel Jones, one of the top linebackers in the 2019 class, is planning a return trip to Clemson this summer.
“I will be visiting early July I believe,” he told The Clemson Insider.
Jones, who received one of his earliest offers from Clemson last May, made his first visit to the school for the Orange & White spring game in April and called it “one of the best” visits he has been on.
Dabo Swinney and Brent Venables made a profound impression on him, and he’s hoping to build on the connection he felt with the coaches.
“I just want to build a relationship with the coaches and see what the players do when they’re practicing for the regular season,” Jones said.
Oregon offered Jones this month, joining schools such as Clemson, Georgia, Louisville, South Carolina, Utah and West Virginia on his offer sheet.
Clemson is prominently positioned on his list, and Jones said he could see himself being a part of the program in a couple of years.
“Clemson is still in my top three at the moment simply because they’re reaching out to me the most,” Jones said. “I feel like I have a good relationship with a lot of coaches and their program is headed in the right direction and there’s a big chance I could be a part of that in two years.”
Jones (6-2, 205) is ranked as a top-10 outside linebacker and top-100 overall prospect for 2019.
