2019 offensive tackle Warren McClendon Jr. is already getting plenty of looks from top Power Five schools, including Clemson.
Since the 6-foot-4, 270-pound Brunswick (Ga.) lineman received an offer from the Tigers back in January, he has racked up several high-profile offers from Miami, Florida, LSU and Florida State.
McClendon Jr. told TCI he recently visited Georgia and South Carolina, and “performed really well” at their camps.
While the visits went well, he added that those visits affected his recruitment “a little but not a lot,” seeing as it is early in the recruiting process for the class of 2019.
As of now, McClendon Jr. said he has not scheduled any visits yet, but does plan to go to Clemson soon to check out the facilities.
“I’ll be trying to make it sometime after the dead period,” McClendon Jr. said. “Just seeing the new facilities.”
He also told TCI he is getting recruited hard by a lot of schools that have offered him so far.
“A lot right now but I’ll be narrowing things down soon,” he said.
Right now, he said Georgia, South Carolina, Clemson, Alabama and FSU all really stand out to him because of “their football program and their coaching staff.”
McClendon Jr. stated that his criteria for selecting a school will come down to the “coaching staff, education, and the school atmosphere.”
While he does not have a date for making his final decision, McClendon Jr. has narrowed it down to two possible times.
“I’m still trying to figure out if I want to do it before my senior year or on NSD,” McClendon Jr. said.
Regardless of when he makes his decision, he told TCI that in order to take his game to the next level, he has a couple of things that he wants to work on for next season.
“My run blocking,” he said. “I need to work on furnishing blocks and playing from whistle to whistle.”
If McClendon Jr. does end up coming to Death Valley, he said the Tigers would get “a hard working player who loves the game of football.”
