Brandon Smith is one of the top defensive end prospects in the class of 2019, and Clemson got him on campus for its junior day back in March.
The four-star from Mineral (Va.) Louisa County had planned to visit Clemson again for the Dabo Swinney Camp last month, but a scheduling conflict arose and prevented him from making the trip.
“I was scheduled to get there for camp but something came up,” Smith told TCI.
Smith has made a number of visits elsewhere recently, so he doesn’t have any more scheduled before the start of his junior season. He plans to sit down with his parents soon and map out a plan for visits during the college football season.
Clemson is one school they could consider returning to, as Smith is interested in learning more about the program.
“Just to talk with the coaches more and get to know them better and how Clemson runs their program,” Smith said of what he would like to get out of another Clemson visit. “Maybe watch film with them.”
Smith (6-3, 218) most recently visited Alabama on Monday and picked up an offer from the Crimson Tide. Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech are among his other offers.
Clemson hasn’t yet pulled the trigger on an offer, though the Tigers are intrigued by the premier pass-rusher.
“(They like) my size, length and athleticism for my size,” he said.
Smith likes a lot about Clemson, and said an offer from the Tigers would mean a lot.
“Great program of course,” he said. “Family environment, facilities are top notch. An offer from Clemson would be a great offer from the defending national champions. It would be an honor to get an offer.”
Smith is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 110 prospect in the 2019 class.
Along with Alabama, he has been to Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State and Notre Dame this summer.
As a sophomore last season, he logged 75 tackles with 10 tackles for loss and six sacks.
