Clemson an early favorite for prized WR prospect

Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy’s Jermaine Burton is one of the best wide receiver prospects that the class of 2020 has to offer.

Only a sophomore, Burton already owns offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Louisville, Mississippi State, Oregon, South Carolina, Syracuse and USC.

Though Clemson hasn’t yet pulled the trigger on an offer to Burton, he cited Clemson when asked if he has any favorite schools early in his recruiting process.

“Yes I do,” Burton said, “and Clemson is definitely in it.”

Burton (6-0, 177) was invited to visit Clemson in May, made the trip and left highly impressed.

“I like the environment Clemson has,” Burton said. “The players aren’t distracted by anything and stay on task with school work and football.”

Burton can see himself at a school with a family culture like Clemson’s and a place where he feels appreciated.

“I want to be at a school where I’m wanted,” he said.

Burton played his freshman season at Hapeville Charter in Atlanta, Ga., before transferring to IMG Academy this offseason.

IMG, of course, is also home to 2018 Clemson commits Mike Jones and Xavier Thomas.

“It’s good,” Burton said of IMG. “The plan was to get better, and it’s going that way so far.”

Burton named Florida as another school he is high on right now. He hopes to visit both Clemson and Florida during the upcoming season.
