Powell: ‘We did some great things’

Overall, Clemson’s offense shined on the field Saturday during the Tigers 56-3 victory over Kent State.

Wide receiver Cornell Powell contributed to an offense that racked up 665 yards of total offense with a 14-yard touchdown reception from backup quarterback Zerrick Cooper in the third quarter. Powell was one of 15 difference pass catchers for the Tigers on Saturday.

Question: You guys clearly dominated today. It was up and down the offensive stat sheet. All of you guys got a chance to shine.

Powell: “Well coming off that, everyone thought we only had two guys being that Mike (Williams) and Artivis (Scott) left and thought it was going to be a drop-off, but we legitimately have nine guys that could start on any college football team and win games. So we always have that and that’s great so whenever someone else shines, everyone is happy. If you have that mindset in your position group, you are always going to succeed.”

Question: Did you get what you needed to get out of this team to be ready for the upgraded competition next week?

Cain: “It was a great opening. We displayed some great stuff and we saw who we were and got our identity out there. We did some great things but there is always room for improvement. We have to go in there and break down film on Monday and see what we can improve on for next week.”
