Clemson, SC–Clemson sophomore Jacob Burger defeated Michael Shrader of Midlothian, VA, 1 up in the first round of the North-South Amateur at Pinehurst, NC on Wednesday. Burger now advances to the second round of the 64-player match play bracket. He will play Blayne Barber of lake City, FL on Thursday morning. This marks the third straight year Burger has won at least one match at the North-South Amateur, one of the top amateur golf events of the summer season.

Burger was the only Clemson golfer to reach the match play portion of the event. Tuesday, Brewer Bradshaw and Michael Muscatell failed to advance through the stroke play qualifier.
