Mainland High defensive back Cortez Davis is back with the Tigers. For the second time the top defensive back has committed to the Tigers.
“I called them on the phone. I talked with Dabo, coach Rumph, coach Cheese and coach Scott. I told them I wanted to be a Tiger again. They asked if I was sure and I told them I was,” said Davis.
Coach Rumph was the only coach not surprised by the news.
“I had been talking with coach Rumph so he was the only one that wasn’t surprised,” said Davis.
Why did the Florida standout decide to switch back to the Tigers?
“I have been thinking about it for a while. Clemson was the first place I committed. That is where my heart was. Me and Marlin sat down and had a long talk. I feel like I can go to Clemson and play right away,” replied Davis.
Family ties to Florida State had played a role in his switch to the Noles. How does the family feel about the decision to be a Tiger?
“They were excited. They want me to go where I want to go. They want me to go where I can play right away,” replied Davis.
Cortez does plan to take some other official visits, but says his commitment is firm to the Tigers.
“I am going to take some other official visits, but I will sign with Clemson on February 3,” said Davis.
