Is Maybank Firm with Tigers?

By Keith McGonigle.

2011 defensive tackle commit Jerome Maybank got a little taste of what Clemson would be like after attending Clemson camp this summer.

“Camp was alright, first we did flex lines then split up into groups by position, it was pretty fun working with (defensive line coach) Brooks. It was cool working with him and getting a better feel for what practice and playing next year will be like,” said Maybank.

Jerome says he is “pretty set on Clemson” and has no plans to take any visits.

The 6’4” 310 lbs. defensive tackle, recently went to media days at Costal Carolina and USC.

“At the media days we basically split into groups get interviewed and have pictures taken,” said Maybank.

Clemson fans should be on the lookout for Jerome on the cover of The High School Sports Report Magazine, where he and some other players will be featured.

The coaches have told Jerome to keep working hard, keep hitting the weights and to finish off his high school career strong. The coaches have told to lose a little weight in order to play defensive line, but Jerome could also possibly play offensive line for Clemson and he is at the right weight now to do that.

Who have people compared Jerome to?

“A bunch of people have actually have compared me to Michael Oher from the movie The Blindside, and my coach has called me Albert Haynesworth,” replied Maybank.

Waccamaw high school lost a lot of players this year so Jerome’s goal is to just do his best and have fun. He says he wants to work on getting stronger and work on his footwork this year. Jerome thought about graduating early but plans on finishing up his senior year.
