Kicking Off The Rally Cat Season Right

By Georgia Anderson, 2nd Year Sophomore Rally Cat.

It’s that time again, football season is just around the corner and the Rally Cats are back in Clemson making preparations to do better than ever cheering on our Tigers.  With seven new additions to our team, there’s lots of teaching and lots of practicing to be done.  While we knew this week would bring sore muscles and busy schedules, we couldn’t be more excited about being back and getting started!

We kicked things off Monday, having our first practice with this year’s new team.  The first item on our list of things to master was of course Tiger Rag.  The new girls, most of which have little experience with pom, worked really hard and are doing a great job picking up the “Rally Cat style”.  First year Rally Cats Mae Ann Webb (Fr), Leslie Spearman (Fr), Lindsey Crawford (Fr), Theresa Ellis (Fr), Turner Fortner (Fr), Alexa Parker (So), and Lizzie Calk (Ju) have meshed really well with all of us and we can tell are going to be great additions to the team.

On top of making preparations for dancing on the sidelines during football season, Wednesday and Thursday were dedicated to fine tuning our skills by participating in NDA (National Dance Association) camp from 9am to 4pm each day.  It provided a great opportunity to clean up some technique that may have started slipping over the summer and gave us some good practice at quickly picking up routines as a team.

Throughout the weekend we will be getting a head start on some choreography for future performances happening this semester.  Friday we will learn our First Friday routine (September 3) and Saturday and Sunday we will be learning our dances for Tigerama (October 1)!  Before all of that however, we can look forward to getting everyone back into the Clemson spirit by performing Tiger Rag at the Welcome Back Festival this Monday, August 16!

I know when I say I’m so happy to be back and very excited about this year getting started, I can speak for the whole team and say that they are as well.  We’re very much looking forward to the football season and can’t wait to see everyone out there supporting our Tigers!
