Tigers Return 15 Starters
The Tigers welcome back 51 lettermen and 15 starters from the 2009 team that won the Atlantic Division for the first time. Clemson finished in the top 25 in the season’s final poll. Six of the returning starters are on preseason national award watch lists.
Ten Straight Winning Seasons
The Tigers have ten straight winning seasons. The last season Clemson didn’t have a wining record was Tommy Bowden’s first year as head coach in 1999. Clemson did go bowling that season. Only 14 teams in the nation enter 2010 with ten straight winning seasons.
Parker Dual-sport Firsts
Kyle was the first and only player in Division one to throw over 20 touchdowns and hit 20 homeruns in the same academic year. Parker also played on two top 20 teams in the same year. The Tigers finished fourth in the nation in baseball and No. 24 in the final football poll.
Parker Firsts
Kyle’s nine wins as a freshman tied with Matt Barkley for most in the nation. Only freshman nationally to take his team to a conference championship. The nine wins were four more than any other freshman quarterback in Clemson history.
Ellington Great Average Per Carry
While C.J. Spiller was making a run for the Heisman, Andre Ellington gained 491 yards and averaged 7.22 per carry. That is only behinds C.J.’s 7.27 as a freshman.
Experienced Staff
While head coach Dabo Swinney is only going into his second year, Clemson has a very experienced staff. Clemson’s ten coaches have 158 years of coaching experience at the Division 1 level. Four of the coaches have been on a staff that has won a national championship.
