Meeting of Top Two Recruiting Classes
Clemson and Miami had the top two recruiting classes in the nation in 2008 according to the ESPN rankings. Miami was ranked No. 1 with 12 of the ESPN top 150 players and Clemson was ranked No. 2 with 10 of the top 150. Combined the two schools had almost 15 percent of the top 150 players in the nation.
Ellington Averaging 7.4 Yards Per Carry
Andre Ellington had a career high 140 yards rushing on a career high 22 carries against Auburn. Andre is now averaging 91 yards per game rushing, which is second in the ACC. Ellington now has 105 rushes for 764 yards in his career for 7.27 yards per carry.
The Clemson record for career rushing yards per carry (over 1000 rushing yards) is 5.92 by Jackie Calvert who rushed for 1149 yard on 194 carries from 1948-50.
McDaniel Gets No. 12
DeAndre McDaniel got his 12th interception in the loss at Auburn. DeAndre played well in the loss with five tackles, one tackle for loss and an interception. McDaniel now has 14 career tackles for loss and 12 interceptions.
DeAndre is tied for fifth in school history with 12 career interceptions. The Clemson record is 17 set by Terry Kinard.
Last year DeAndre had a great game against the Canes and was named the Bronko Nagurski Award National Defensive player of the week. McDaniel had two interceptions in that game including one that he returned 23 yards for a touchdown.
Clemson after Open Date
Open dates have been good to the Tigers the past three years. Each year Clemson lost the game before the open date and won the game after the bye.
Last year Clemson was upset by Maryland before the bye week. The Tigers then went on to win six games in a row to win the Atlantic Division. In 2007, clemson lost to Virginia Tech before the open date then won four in a row. In 2008, Clemson lost to Georgiat Tech in Dabo’s first game then won three in a row.
Parker Off to Fast Start
Kyle Parker is off to a fast start in 2010. Parker has a passing efficiency rating of 158.4 which is second best in the ACC and 22nd in the nation. Kyle has completed 35-60 passes for 503 yard and six touchdowns with only one interception. He completed 20-34 passes for 220 yard and two scores at Auburn, even after playing most of the second half with an injury.
Parker has shown improvement as he gains more experience. In the last night games Kyle is 124-208 (.596) for 1606 yards with 16 touchdown passes and just five interceptions.
Success at Homecoming
The Tigers have been very successful during homecoming games at Clemson. The Tigers are 64-19-3 or 76 percent during homecoming games over the 86 homecoming games.
