Steele Gives Credit to Players

Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele won the battle with Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson as the Tiger defense dominated the Jackets for most of the night.  Instead of taking a victory lap, coach Steele gave all of the credit to his players.

“It was a very good win.  I am happy for the players.  The defensive guys in particular because that is who we work with.  They laid it on the line and did what we asked them to do.  They played extremely hard.  They did some really special things.  6 of 16 on third downs.  If it had been 4 of 13 we wouldn’t have given up any touchdowns.  We did give up one touchdown.  The biggest thing is their quarterback who is an exceptional player carried the ball 15 times for two yards.  That was a huge factor in the game.  The players did this.  They did this.  they executed and played hard.  I am very happy for them,” said Steele.

How long has been putting Andre Branch at linebacker for this game been in the works?

A smiling Steele responded, “for a while”.

The Clemson staff has started working on the game plan for the rematch last December after losing the ACC Championship game.  That work all paid off Saturday afternoon.
