Future Tigers Help Dorman Beat Byrnes

By Keith McGonigle.

The big in-state rivalry game featured two powerhouse teams and was broadcasted on ESPN U.  Dorman High School features 2011 verbal commits WR Charone Peake and WR Adam Humphries.  Dorman also has 2012 lineman Patrick Destefano who is very high on Clemson.

The Game

It ended up being a close game decided really by turnovers, but Charone, Adam and Patrick all looked good.  Final score: Dorman 21 Byrnes 14

Charone – Was targeted throughout the game and made some big plays.  On the first play of the game he went over the middle and made a great catch in traffic.  He showed amazing speed and great hands throughout the game.  He also showed the homerun ability that made him such a highly prized recruit.  He had easily the play of the game on an 80 yard bomb that he took for a touchdown. (Can be seen at one minute mark: http://www.wyff4.com/r/25573669/detail.html)  Charone also got a chance to run the ball a few times.  He had one good run going for about 10 yards when he looked to be stopped behind the line of scrimmage.  He really showed the ability to do everything: run short and long routes, run with the ball, be a factor on special teams and he even helped out at safety laying a big hit at the end of the game.

Adam – He showed great ability on both defense and special teams.  On defense he was matched up one-on-one for most of the game.  The receivers he was covering were targeted a couple of times in the first half and he did a great job flashing ability to break on passes and make plays.  The highlight of the game for him was a 30 yard punt return Adam showed off his speed and quickness.  Unfortunately Adam did not get the chance to contribute too much on offense two passes that were thrown his way were intercepted.  He was not seen on the field for the second half.

Patrick – Big lineman that stood out.  He moved well, and they seemed to run a lot of plays to his side whether it was QB roll outs, pitches or runs.  Patrick looked like he mostly played left tackle but I saw him line up at right tackle at points in the game to.  He has obvious talents and I am sure he will be a big recruit next year.

Other things learned watching the game

The announcers continually talked about Charone, who ESPN has as the number one rated receiver in the country, and how good of a player he is.  Many times they compared him to WR AJ Green (South Carolina Native, and U of Georgia standout) and even to Randy Moss.  By the end of the game, Charone showed that he was worthy of the comparison with some big plays.  It was great exposure for Clemson, because anytime they talked about Charone (which they did often) they would mention how he was committed to Clemson.

Adam Humphries showed that he is a really good athlete.  I think if he wanted to, he could probably be a defensive back for Clemson.  They also talked about how he is a great basketball player and has a GPA of 3.7.
