Sammy Watkins, one of the top receivers in the nation, committed to coach Brad Scott and the Clemson Tigers. The 2011 receiver class for the Tigers could be their best ever at receiver.
The elite receiver called the Clemson staff Monday morning to give them the good news.
“The coaches were real excited. They were real happy about my decision,” said Watkins.
“Clemson is a great school. They have great coaches and it is a great town. I have known for a while that I was going to Clemson. I got tired of waiting and holding out,” said Watkins.
Watkins was recruited by all of the top programs in the nation. Last week Watkins narrowed the field to Clemson and Michigan.
“Clemson was the best fit for me. I fit in there and feel like I can play early,” said Watkins.
Sammy caught 37 passes for 885 yards and ten touchdowns his senior year despite missing four games with injury. He also rushed for 266 yards and three touchdowns.
The addition of Watkins give Clemson 21 verbal commitments for the class of 2011.
