McNeal Ready to Compete

The Tigers will be losing a very talented quarterback in Kyle Parker after the season.  Luckily the Tigers are bringing in another very talented quarterback in Tony McNeal.  The Chester High School standout will be joining the Tigers sooner rather than later as he has decided to enroll at Clemson this January,

“I am enrolling early for sure.   It will help me learn the playbook, and get a head start on everything, and hopefully I will be able to compete for a spot early.  The coaches are really excited that I can come in and get a jump start and get a lot of reps.”

Tony said that he is hoping 2011 commits Robert Smith, Shaq Anthony and others will join him in committing early.

What made the 6’2” 190 lbs quarterback choose Clemson?

“Me and Coach Scott developed a great relationship and I came up there a lot and I liked everything about Clemson.  Clemson has a great young coaching staff and they are going to continue to build the program.  The main reason I chose Clemson is the coaching staff and how comfortable I felt when I was there”

What does Tony think of the incoming recruiting class?

“I am real excited, I’ve been talking with a bunch of the other recruits like Shaq Anthony, DeShawn Williams, Charone Peake, and Eric MacLain, we are just ready to come there and contribute.”

Many highly rated quarterbacks have come to Clemson and struggled, what does Tony hope to bring to the positions?

“I just want to go there and do the best I can and compete for a job.”

How did Chester High School and Tony do this year?

“It was an OK season, we finished the season a couple of weeks ago.  We lost in the second round of the playoffs, which was not our goal so it was an OK season.  I haven’t gotten my stats yet but I think I threw for around 2500 yards and 25-30 touchdowns,” replied McNeal.

The star quarterback put up great stats despite recovering from a torn ACL last January, much like Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd.

“I played with a brace in the beginning of the season it was kind of awkward to wear it.  I have talked to Tajh Boyd about the injury and asked for advice on what to do because I knew he tore his ACL too.  I am healthy now.”

Who does Tony model his game after?

“My favorite quarterback is Tom Brady.  I love how he runs the offense, how comfortable he is in the pocket and how smart of a quarterback he is,” replied McNeal.
