For the second weekend in a row Clemson fell to South Carolina. This time coach Brownell’s Tigers went down 64-60 at South Carolina. The loss ended a six game win streak the Tigers held against the Gamecocks.
Andre Young led the scoring for the Tigers with 15. Demontez Stitt added 13 and Jerai Grant was also in double figures with ten.
The Tigers struggled from the field hitting only 38 percent and only 18 percent from three.
South Carolina jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game. The Gamecocks stretched the lead to 13-4 before the Tigers went on a run. Andre Young’s three pointer cut the lead to 13-9. Bobo scored inside to cut the lead to 13-11.
The Gamecocks went on a 7-2 run to stretch the lead to 20-13. The Tigers battled back. Clemson went on a 10-0 run to take the lead 23-20.
South Carolina battled back and regained the lead with a 9-2 run at 29-25. The Tigers tied the game at 29 before the Gamecocks went on a 5-2 run to take a 34-31 lead into the half.
With 16:51 to go in the game Jerai Grant cut the lead to 36-35 after hitting two free throws.
South Carolina went on a 7-0 run to stretch the lead to 43-35 with 14:07 to go in the game. The Tigers would bounce back. After Andre Young hit a three pointer the game was tied at 45.
The Gamecocks went on a 5-0 run to stretch the lead back to five. The Tigers would get no closer than two the rest of the way.
Clemson falls to 5-3 on the season after losing for the second time this week. The Tigers will open ACC play at Florida State next Sunday.
