Townsend Commits to Tigers

US Army All-American Lateek Townsend made a verbal commitment to the Clemson Tigers during Saturday’s game.

Townsend said last night on his Facebook page that he would not make his commitment today.  He was scheduled to make it earlier in the game and struggled with the decision to announce during the game.  With a minute to go in the game he made his announcement.

With the Clemson hat in the middle and South Carolina and LSU on the sides, Lateek thanked his family, his coach and other before picking up the Clemson hat and saying he was going to Clemson.

Lateek gives the Tigers one of the top linebackers in the Southeast and their third US Army All-American for 2011.

Lateek finished the year with 120 tackles, seven sacks and 15 tackles for loss.

Townsend becomes the 22nd verbal commitment for the Tiger’s 2011 class.
