Smith Discusses Enrollment Delay

Clemson verbal commitment Robert Smith has decided to wait until this summer to enroll at Clemson.  Smith goes on the record with to discuss his decision and a visit from coach Elliott.

“Basically it was a personal decision.  I don’t really want to get into the details.  Clemson knows why and they completely understand.  Nothing had changed between us.  I didn’t change my mind about going to Clemson.  It was just a personal decision.  I just won’t be enrolling this month,” said Smith.

Robert took his official visit the first weekend of January.

“I took my official weekend the week before because I was going to enroll early.  They gave me another week to decide,” said Smith.

Last weekend the Palmetto standout went back to Clemson to spend time with his future teammates.

“They just told me last weekend to come up and spend time with my class.  I decided Sunday night I would wait,” said Smith.

Robert expects to enroll at Clemson for the first session this summer.

“I am looking to go down for the first session,” said Smith.

Robert will only take a few classes this semester to simulate college.

“I have setup my schedule to try to simulate what I will do in college.  I have a weight lifting class in the morning.  Then I will have English 102.  Then I have a health science class because that is what I am going to major in at Clemson.  Basically it is a college class without college credit.  That is all I am taking this semester,” said Smith.

The two-way standout will be working just like he would be if he was in Tigertown.

“I will workout after I get out of school.  I will also try to get up around 5:30 and go run.  I want to simulate what I would be doing at Clemson as best I can,” said Smith.

Coach Tony Elliott came by to visit Robert on Thursday.

“Coach Elliott came by today.  He is real cool.  He is real familiar with my coach as he is from down that way.  He just came to touch base.  He let me know he has a complete understanding of my situation,” said Smith.
