Frederick Looking for Great Year

Frederick Looking for Great Year

Frederick Looking for Great Year

By Trey McCurry.

Alex Frederick came on strong down the stretch last season and was a big reason the Tigers were only one win away from the championship series.  A confident Frederick can’t wait for opening day as he tells

On getting ready for opening day:

We are definitely excited about it. We have been working hard and getting ready for the 18th. We have a good bunch of guys together with a lot of guys back from last year and some great newcomers. We look to have a great year and it will take a lot of hard work to get to where we were and hopefully even better.

On his last go round:

I always want to do my best and considering it is my last go round, I am going to give 120% of all I’ve got and a lot of the guys feel the same way.  We want to go out on top and do whatever it takes.

On the rotation and pitching staff:

I feel that everybody is a year more mature and knows they have to step up.  We have seen a lot of guys step up and everybody’s arms are getting stronger. I feel that there are a couple jumps in MPH with a lot of different guys. With all the work that once we execute, we still have to go out and throw strikes. Even with the new bats, we have to throw strikes. I don’t think the power numbers will be as high because I don’t see many guys looking for the big homerun swings anymore. If we pitch to our spots and pitch our games, I think we will be in good shape. Our confidence level is pretty high and that’s a big part of the game.

We have a momentum on the mound where we are getting the ball and going. That is the thing we always do and we are taking the time to make sure we are hitting our spots and throwing strikes. As a pitcher, you always want to be ahead in the count and if we do that, with defense and our hitting, I think we will be in good shape. Obviously pitching is a big part of the game and if you pitch, you win. That is our drive to be a successful staff. We have a lot of good guys in our lineup and if we produce on the mound, I’m sure they will produce for us.
