Clemson’s Head Coach Dabo Swinney held a press conference on Wednesday after Clemson signed what is seen as one of Clemson’s best classes in a long time. A class that wide receivers coach Jeff Scott believes only comes along once every five years.
“Every day is a great day to be a Clemson Tiger but today is one of those special days because we got better today as a football program and we’re all certainly better coaches today than we were yesterday because of this class that we just signed.”
“I’m very thankful, blessed and every day I am humbled to have the opportunity to lead this program and I never take that for granted. College football is about personnel, and again looking at the group that we’re bringing in here it’s easy to get psyched with the group of talented guys that are going to drastically change our personnel as we go forward and I’m thankful for that.”
Swinney reflected on the fact that the 2010 football season was a disappointing one for the Tigers as they finished with their first losing record in 13 years but Swinney remains optimistic for the future of this program.
“It’s been a tough year and a difficult couple of months but I can’t help but smile because I know that the good lord has got his hand upon this program.”
Swinney expressed his gratitude for the Clemson commitments who stuck with the Tigers through the difficult times and the negativity that surrounded the program this past season, knowing that their commitment to this program and their leadership is what set the stage for the successful signing day.
“One thing I would say about these guys that we’ve got coming in is that it’s easy to believe when things are going good, it’s easy to be All In when things are just right, It’s much more difficult when you’re facing a lot of adversity, much more difficult to believe, be all in, and hang in there when things aren’t going the way that you want them to. I think you find out a lot about your character in those types of situation. I think that these guys are a great example to a lot of people on how to handle things, and making decisions based on the right things. And in a season where obviously things didn’t go well and we made some changes on your staff and there’s a lot of negativity surrounding your program, this class not only stayed together but they got stronger. I’m thankful to all of these guys, especially the core group of guys that led the way from the very beginning and when things were negative these kids chose to believe the right things, listened to the right voices and I’m very proud of that group. They hung in there and paved the way, set the stage for what happened today
Swinney said, “It never gets old seeing players come to Clemson and get injected with a little bit of Clemson, all of the sudden, their bloods red but just kind of turns orange.”
“Stephone Anthony said it best today when he said Clemson’s coming.”
