Tigers Find Road Win in Atlanta

The Tigers picked up their first ACC road win of the season with a 65-56 victory over Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon in Atlanta.  Clemson struggled early but came on strong in the final 30 minutes.

Jerai Grant led the Tigers in scoring with 20.  Demontez Stitt scored 16 while Andre Young added 14 thanks to shooting 4-6 from three.

Once again the Tigers shot well against the Jackets.  Clemson shot 57 percent from the field and 50 percent from three.

It looked like it might be a long day for the Tigers after the first ten minutes.  Clemson could only manage three points in the first six minutes of the game and only five in the first ten minutes.  The Tigers turned the ball over ten times in the first ten minutes.  After 10 minutes Tech led 17-5.

The Tigers would surge late late in the half thanks to a 28-8 run to end the half.  Clemson led 33-25 at the half.

Grant hit a layup with 18:42 to go to put the Tigers up 38-29.  Georgia Tech fought back with an 11-2 run to tie the game at 40 with 13:03 to go.

With 10:52 to go the Tigers stretched the lead back to 46-41 when Stitt hit a jumper.  Milton Jennings dunked the ball then got a steal and another dunk to stretch Clemson’s lead to 50-42 with 8:43 to go.  The Jackets would never get closer than four the rest of the way.

The Tigers hit their free throws down the stretch to clinch the victory.  Clemson hit eight free throws in the final two minutes.  Grant was 6-6 from the line down the stretch.

Clemson moves to 16-7 on the year with the win and 5-4 in the ACC.  The Tigers host Boston College Tuesday night at 9 PM.
