Guillermo First 2012 Commitment

6-3, 290 pound offensive lineman Jay Guillermo went public with his commitment to the Tigers on Super Bowl Sunday.  The Maryville, TN standout told the Clemson staff on Thursday about his commitment, but waiting until Sunday to go public.

“I publically announced my commitment today.  I actually committed on Thursday to coach Brooks.  I have some other guys at my school that I wanted to get looked at by BCS schools so we kept it quiet at first.  I talked with my head coach today and he agreed we could go ahead and make it public,” said Guillermo.

The center received the offer he had hoped for on Wednesday from the Clemson staff after attending Junior Day the weekend before.

“They had a hint they wouldn’t have to work hard to get me at Clemson.  I have always been a fan of Clemson.  I have always loved them.  They offered on Wednesday and on Thursday I called coach Brooks and told him I had talked with my parents and we agreed Clemson is where I need to be,” said Guillermo.

Jay has been a Tiger his whole life.

“I don’t have that many in my family that are big Clemson fans, expect my stepdad has liked Clemson.  My grandfather who coached at my old school was recruited to Clemson by Frank Howard.  They have always liked Clemson.  My grandfather has always liked coach Brooks,” said Guillermo.

Watching Clemson sign one of the nation’s top classes on Wednesday made Jay even more excited to join the Tigers.

“Oh yes sir. They have an awesome recruiting class.   Even if I wasn’t already so interested in Clemson seeeing that would make me very interested,” said Guillermo.

Jay becomes the first commitment for the Tiger’s class of 2012.
