TCI had a chance to speak with 6-4, 195 pound Kwinton Smith, a highly recruited receiver out of Dillon, South Carolina, and spoke with him about how his recruiting process is going and his Junior Day visit to Clemson.
First of all Kwinton, who has offered you so far or has shown interest in you?
South Carolina, Clemson, and Wake Forest have all shown interest in me so far. I don’t have a leader though, I’m still getting used to the process and figuring out which school is right for me.
Which of those schools contact you the most often?
I think they all contact me pretty regularly. I hear from them all about once a week, and receive letters from Clemson daily.
Now Clemson’s Junior Day was late last month, can you talk to me a little bit about your experience at Clemson and what the highlights of your trip to Tiger Town were?
I really enjoyed touring the West End Zone. Their facilities are unlike any other place I’ve visited and I loved being there. Another highlight would have to be being able to have more one on one time with the coaching staff.
Did you get a chance to meet the newly hired coaches? Offensive Coordinator Morris, Coach Hobby or Coach Caldwell?
Yeah I got to meet Coach Hobby and Morris. Coach Caldwell wasn’t there yet when I visited on Junior Day but I’ve heard some great things about him. But it was great meeting the new coaches, I like their energy and also like the new offensive scheme that Morris is installing, it helps get the ball into the hands of the play makers.
Did you get a chance to hang out with any current Clemson players or other recruits?
I already knew a few of the Clemson players so I was able to hang out with them, but there were 11 or so of us recruits there on Junior Day so we spent a lot of time together.
With Signing Day this month, how excited are you for next year when you get to sign your own letter of intent?
I’m really excited. It gets closer and closer every day. I just have to continue to work hard in the off season and hopefully have a great senior season and continue to get noticed by schools.
Do you have any plans on visiting Clemson either in the spring, summer or fall?
I’m definitely planning on going to visit Clemson for their Spring Practice and will be there for a few games in the fall too.
