Aiken The Next Bamberg Standout

By Ashley Denny.

TCI had the chance to speak with 6’3” 245 pound defensive end, Martin Aiken out of Bamberg Ehrhardt High school earlier this week. Aiken spoke about the recruiting process, why he may not make his planned March 5th visit to Clemson, and filling the shoes of Da’Quan Bowers and Ricky Sapp, two Clemson greats who also came out of Bamberg as the next highly recruited defensive end out of Bamberg.

First of all, Martin how is the recruiting process going for you so far?

It’s going pretty good, I mean I don’t think I’ll ever get 100% used to getting the phone calls every day but it’s all a part of the process. But I’m liking it so far.

Which schools have offered you so far?

Overall, 16 schools have offered me so far, Clemson, USC, Wake Forest, NC State, UNC, and Georgia Tech are just a few of them.

Which of these schools contacts you the most regularly?

Definitely Clemson, I hear from Coach Hobby a lot and get a lot of mail outs from them too. But the other schools contact me pretty regularly too.

Have you taken any visits yet?

I’ve been to a few Junior Days; I went to USC and Georgia Tech and will be going to Tennessee this weekend.

Are you planning on taking a visit to Clemson?

I was supposed to take a visit to Clemson on March 5th, but I may not be able to make it then because of a weight lifting competition that I’m participating in which is also on March 5th.

What is it about Clemson that stands out to you?

Their coaching staff makes you feel at home when you’re there and are very easy to get along with. Also, Clemson University is a college that takes academics very seriously and that is definitely something that I’m looking for.

How excited does it make you that both Ricky Sapp and Da’Quan Bowers came from your high school and are now in the NFL or soon to be?

It makes me want to continue to work harder. Both Ricky and Da’Quan’s successful college careers and becoming top draft picks puts higher expectations on me because I’m coming from the same school and at the same position. So I’m hoping that I can have as successful of a career wherever I end up.

What do you think your strongest quality is that makes you such a desirable recruit?

The way I play the game is probably the strongest quality I have. I play every play exactly the way that it’s drawn up, and I think that’s what’s made me a highly recruited player.
