Chase High School (NC) defensive tackle Carlos Watkins had an unbelievable junior season and has gotten the attention of some top schools around the country.
“I ended my junior season with 50+ tackles, 29 going for loss, and 11 or so sacks,” said Watkins.
With those numbers it is not surprising that six schools have already offered the 6’4” 275 lbs standout. Any top schools so far?
“I don’t really have a favorite but my top three, the schools that I am very interested in, are Clemson, Florida, and South Carolina,” said Watkins.
Watkins was recently in Tiger town for Clemson’s junior day, how did the star defensive end like the visit?
“It was a real cool visit. We went to the basketball l game; the fans were loud and supportive. We played ping-pong with a few coaches, and just hung out and talked with them. I liked it a whole lot,” said Watkins.
What else does he like about Clemson?
“I like the environment, it’s not too far away from home, and I like the coaches up there.”
What are the most important factors in his decision?
“The main thing is a school that has a good academic program, my parent’s opinion, and a good football program,” said Watkins.
How does Watkins describe his strengths and weaknesses as a football player?
“I have good strength, but I want to be strong enough where I don’t need to be red-shirted or asked to add weight,” said Watkins. “I have pretty good feet; I just have to keep working on getting stronger and faster though.”
Watkins said he is doing track right now, and is working out with his dad and brother, another defensive lineman and 2013 prospect.
