The Guillermo Diaries

By Jay Guillermo.

Clemson verbal commitent Jay Guillermo, the leader of the 2012 class, is doing a diary with TheClemsonInsider.com.  In this edition Jay talks about his recent invitation to play in the Under Armour All-American game, his visit to spring practice and much more!

I got a call on Thursday from ESPN Rise.  They told me they had watched my film.  They said they thought I was the kind of center that met their requirements and they wanted me to play in the Under Armour All-American game.  They said they go off what they see on film, not which teams had offered.

Last year my head coach and offensive line coach coached at the US Army game.  They said they didn’t have any true centers.  The ESPN Rise guys told me they wanted to make sure they had a true center.  That really gave me a lot of respect for them.

I told them I wanted to talk it over with my family to make sure they were okay with it.  I told them they would hear from me soon.  I talked to my family and called them back a couple of hours later to accept.

I talked to Shaq on Facebook after his commitment.  I congratulated him and told him I looked forward to playing with him.

I have also been talking with Oliver Jones and Patrick Destefano.

I went to practice when they had junior day.  I saw them battle it out.  I got to see their Oklahoma drill.  That was intense and it made me want to go hit somebody.

I will be back down for the spring game.  I am trying to get my quarterback down there with me.  He just got an offer from Vanderbilt.  I also want to get my freshman running back, Shawn Prevo down with me.

Today is our last day of spring break.  We start up practice in two or three weeks.

I went to the Nike combine in Atlanta.  I ran a 4.5 shuttle and weighed in at 6-3, 292 pounds.  I was happy with that shuttle time.  They looked at me like that big guy can’t do that.
