By Trey McCurry. caught up with several Clemson players following the Tiger’s extra inning victory over Coastal Carolina.

Jon McGibbon:

On the win tonight:

We needed this. We had a tough weekend against North Carolina and we needed to come out here and get a win tonight to get us going again. Sarratt came out and did his thing. They got some hits, but that is how baseball goes. Haselden came in and really did his job. He kept the ball down, got strikes, and got them out.

On his game winning at-bat tonight:

I was not thinking too much. I was looking for the right pitch to hit and tried to keep battling up there. I worked the count to 3-2 and then he came in when a fastball and I just shot it back up the middle. It is an unbelievable feeling to get a hit like that. To play in an atmosphere like Clemson is really something special and for me to come out and get that hit is just an amazing feeling for me.

On coming through off the bench:

Early in the season, I really think injuries slowed us down. Now we have most everyone back and healthy. We have Brad back in the field, which we needed, and now we are ready to go. We need to get ourselves jump-started again and do what we need to get done.

David Haselden:

On his performance tonight:

I had all the confidence in the world because of the defense. Brad made three great plays and Richie made several too. It gives you all kinds of confidence out there pitching. I knew we would stay in it and eventually win. Hopefully I will be able to come back sometime this weekend and help us out again. All I thought about coming in was not allowing the guy to score from first, and then I just went from there. After the third or fourth inning, Pep told me to be ready to go for a little bit if the game went long. I was throwing my sinker pretty well and just trying to get ground balls and let my defense back me up.

Will Lamb:

On what tonight’s game meant to the team:

Today was the start of, as Coach Leggett said, a 30-game season for us. We’ve wiped the slate clean and started over today. We won the season opener and are 1-0. You could not win in a more fun way than that.

On Haselden’s performance tonight:

It was huge. He came in throwing strikes and made big pitch after big pitch. He did what he was called upon to do and we did what we could to back him up.

On the freshmen stepping up off the bench:

Everybody knows everyone on this team is capable of doing big things in big situations. Their number was called tonight and they did what they had to do. Hats off to them. It says something about our team that they can step up and do that for us.
