Firth Leads Tigers over Terps


The Tigers put up 13 hits on their way to a 7-0 victory over Maryland Saturday night at Doug Kingsmore.

Brad Miller continued to be hot at the plate going 3-4 and adding two RBIs.  Richie Shaffer went 3-5 and Phil Pohl was 2-5.

Scott Firth had his best performance of the season for the Tigers.  Firth went six innings giving up only two hits and no runs.

Clemson jumped on the Terps early Saturday early.  John Hinson was hit by a pitch and stole second to leadoff the game.  With one out Jeff Schaus walked.  Richie Shaffer singled down the left field line scoring Hinson.  Brad Miller doubled to left center scoring Schaus and Shaffer.  Miller stole third before  Will Lamb singled to score Miller and put the Tigers up 4-0 after one.

The Tigers plated another run in the fifth.  Jeff Schaus doubled to left to start the inning and advanced to third on a passed ball.  Another passed ball scored Schaus.  After five the Tigers led 5-0.

In the bottom of the sixth Phil Pohl hit his third homerun of the season.  John Hinson reached on an error and stole second.  Phil Pohl homered to right field to put the Tigers up 7-0.

With the victory the Tigers moved to 18-12 overall and 6-8 in the ACC.  The Tigers and Terps play game three Sunday at 1 PM.
