Clemson, SC – TheClemsonInsider.com caught up with Clemson head coach Jack Leggett following the Tigers victory over Presbyterian Tuesday night at Doug Kingsmore.

On the game tonight:

Sarratt did a good job tonight and threw strikes. He was throwing his breaking ball for strikes and got us off to a good start. We had the five run inning and were able to scratch out a couple more runs. We played good offensively getting 12 hits, but I think there is more in the tank for us. We are close, but not where we want to be. We just have to keep on working at it. We played a good ballgame tonight and played well defensively. We faced the same guy last time and pitched well, we just had a little better approach tonight.

On Shaffer’s homer giving the team a spark:

It really did. We struggled the first three innings and were a little frustrated. That broke the ice and tied the game. We loosened up and started to get things going.

On the Boston College series this upcoming weekend:

It is a huge series for us. We have to get ourselves in a position to come out to win all three games and we cannot leave anything on the table. We are going to have to play really well to win up there. They always play us tough and they have been playing good lately. It will be a good challenge for us. Our concentration level has to be very, very high. We have to play all 27 innings if we expect to win.

On the rotation this weekend:

We will probably go Leone on Friday, Firth on Saturday, and Sunday is to be determined. We may use Lamb and Weismann in relief this weekend. I kind of like Weismann in relief a little more. We wanted to see what he looked like in an end of game situation. He struck out all three guys and he has not done that all season long. Maybe he has a little better mentality and is better in shorter stents.

On going 5-1 since saying the team was in a new 30-game season:

I would rather be sitting in a little better seat for sure. I like our approach right now and we are getting a little bit closer to where we want to be. We still have some things to learn and get better in all phases of the game. Hopefully our defensive play keeps up and we need to tie everything together. I will let you know how I feel after the weekend. This weekend is a huge weekend for us.
