Leggett Has Tigers Surging

TheClemsonInsider.com caught up with Clemson head coach Jack Leggett after the Tiger’s victory over Davidson.

On tonight’s game:

We played really good tonight. We hit the ball extremely well, played good defense, and every guy that had a chance to pitch went out there and did his thing. We really almost put together a perfect game in some really difficult circumstances with the rain delay and trying to get the field ready. We appreciate Davidson hanging around and allowing us to get the game in.

On the team camaraderie and character:

We have some characters on this team and some guys that are really loose. We are feeling confidant right now, having some fun playing, and then had a little time to get creative tonight. I think we may have gotten out created, but at the same time it was good to see both teams have a little fun with the rain delay.

On Brady’s return tonight:

It was good to get him out there tonight. He looked good and pitched pretty strong. He had a little hop on his fastball, and that is good to see. We will just have to see how he feels tomorrow and the next day now and hopefully we can use him again this weekend. Hopefully he continues to feel better and will really help us down the stretch.

On looking ahead to Florida State:

We just have to go down there and play tough, hard-nosed ball. We need to play aggressively and to win and just see where it takes us. We both have been playing pretty well lately. Their Thursday starter Gilmartin is 9-1 and has really been pitching well. Leone is going to have to be sharp for us. We are going to have to pitch extremely well this weekend and hit the ball.

On how Clemson has played down the stretch:

There is no question about it that we have played a lot better the last 27 games. Everybody is back healthy now and we are just confident. A lot of guys are starting to hit the ball well. Shaffer hit the ball well tonight, Epps and Lamb had great nights, and on down the line. It feels good to have scratched back to where we are now. If you have been following this program the last 18 years, you should know to never count us out. We are always going to play hard the entire season and get ourselves in there at the end of the year. We are going to keep playing hard down the stretch and hopefully do some good things the rest of this year.
