Durham, NC – caught up with Phil Pohl and David Haselden following the Tiger’s 9-0 victory over Georgia Tech.

Phil Pohl

On the importance of today’s win:

Today was huge. Coming away with the first win gives you a lot of momentum. We have a great pool with four great teams so to start with a win is big. It was great to see our offense come alive the second half of the game. It is a good boost to take us into tomorrow against Florida State.

On Leone and Haselden throwing a shutout:

It is all about momentum. Dominic came out and threw a heck of a game. He battled all day with runners in scoring position. He was tough all day and got his job done. Then Haselden came in and shut the door on them.

On what the team can carry into tomorrow:

Definitely just try to continue what we started today. I would like to keep hitting. I think we are swinging the bats really well and seeing pitches well, as well as pitching well. If we keep hitting and pitching, I think it is going to be a good tournament for us.

On getting the 40th win of the season:

It is a great accomplishment. I think we hit a lull early on and have really come on strong. We are 26-5 our last 31 games so that is great. We are playing great and starting to click on all cylinders, which is good to see. Hopefully we can carry that over tomorrow against Florida State.

David Haselden

On shutting out Georgia Tech today (for the first time since 2008):

It was just nice to save some pitching for tomorrow and the rest of the week. I just came out and was able to throw my two-seamer and breaking ball for strikes. The guys behind me backed me up and we just had a good game. I just shows we have a good pitching staff and we have to come back out tomorrow and get ready for Florida State.

On what the win today means to the team:

It is a big confidence builder. We know we can play with and beat anybody. We just have to go out there and keep playing like we did today.

On getting the 40th win of the season:

We have all loosened up and just go out and play baseball. We lost some guys to injuries earlier, but everyone is back now. So that is a big thing and we are just playing good baseball.

On the rest of the week:

I could come back this week if I am needed. I missed the trip to Virginia Tech with a little inflammation, but I am good now.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney likes where his team is after the second full scrimmage of camp. Wednesday at Death Valley Swinney gave the latest on the scrimmage, injuries, the battle at QB and much more. (…)
