Pinehurst, NC- Although it wasn’t a surprise to see Boston College’s tailback Montel Harris overwhelmingly win the preseason ACC Player of the Year poll, taken by the media members present at the ACC Football Kickoff this past weekend, the Eagles didn’t receive much more love from the media who predicted them to finish fourth place in the Atlantic Division after North Carolina State, Clemson and ultimate winner, Florida State.
Harris who is only 1,003 yards away from breaking the all conference career rushing record, believes that Boston College is much better than a 4th place team, something that he and his teammates are ready to prove come September.
This season is Boston College Head Coach Frank Spaziani’s third as Head Coach and although the Eagles are returning almost every player who caught a pass last season and a young quarterback with a season under his belt, there are still several question marks surrounding Spaziani’s program.
“I think we’re in much better shape than two years ago,” Spaziani said. “There are still a few question marks but I think Chase (Retting) is maturing at quarterback and our wide receivers are doing good things, we’re light years ahead of where we were two years ago.”
Both Harris and linebacker Luke Kuechly who were present at the ACC Football Kickoff agreed with their coach that the team has continued to improve during the offseason and that they should definitely be seen as contenders for the ACC Crown.
“That’s one thing about BC,” Kuechly said. “We’ve always been a competitive team to play and we play smart. We always give teams a run for their money and in the ACC that’s critical. We’ve got to continue to do our jobs and play football”
