Boyd Looks for Offense to Explode

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd got the first start of his career Saturday against Troy.  Boyd threw three touchdowns and completed 13 straight passes in the second half.

What happened at the half to turn things around?

“One of the main things is coach Scott came and sat next to me.  He told me I know it feels like things are moving fast right now, but it is really not.  You just have to trust what is going on and everything will be fine.  Other than that it wasn’t too much said.  It was kind of one of those things where there wasn’t too much stress in the locker room.  I feel like that is one of the best things about it.  There was like a different atmosphere in there.  We came out and played our game and everything worked out.   That is the best thing about this offense.  It is still coming along.  It is not always going to be perfect but when things start to click they definitely do.  We just have to keep working week to week,” said Boyd.

Did it go like you expected for your first game?

“Yeah definitely, one of the things coach Swinney stressed was like we might face some adversity.  It depended how we came back from that.  You always want to try to have a perfect game as a unit, but I really feel like we grew a lot,” said Boyd.

What can this passing game do?

“It can explode.  There is so much potential.  When you get guys like Martavis working in there a little bit more.  You see what kind of capabilities he has after the catch.  We didn’t get BrYce worked in there yet.  There is so much going on.  We get Joe Craig back for the Florida State game and it is just more speed.  I feel like we will have the fastest receivers in the ACC and maybe in the country.  I don’t want to disrespect anybody else but I feel like we can see that.  It is definitely going to be explosive.  We just have to keep working and take what is there,” said Boyd.

Who wins a race between Bellamy, Craig and Watkins?

“I don’t know.  That is close.  You have to throw Martavis in there also.  He is deceptive.  Usually tall guys just look they stride.  He might be up there man.  It is so exciting.  It has been fun working with them.  Me and Sammy were talking and we said we got our first start together and it is going to be good,” said Boyd.
