2013 QB Sandberg High on Tigers

By Keith McGonigle.

With 2012 quarterback Chad Kelly already verbally committed to the Tigers; the coaching staff has turned their attention to the 2013 signal callers. The Clemson coaching staff believe 2013 quarterback recruit Cord Sandberg would fit perfectly into Chad Morris’ new offense.  The 6’2” 190 lbs. lefty gunslinger is being recruited hard by the Clemson coaching staff.  So far he holds offers from Clemson, Auburn and Iowa State.

Any favorites yet?

“Well right now I feel like Clemson and Auburn have shown the most interest in me, so those schools are the schools I have interest in, but right now I am pretty open,” said Sandberg.  “Stanford, LSU, and Florida are other schools I have been looking at. It’s my junior year so I am putting all my effort into this football season and will worry about recruiting after the season.”

What does the dual-threat quarterback think about Clemson?

“Well I went up to the campus the summer after my freshman season.  I thought the overall campus and atmosphere were really nice,” said Sandberg.  “I liked how the practice field, facilities and stadium were so close and thought the facilities were as good as any in the country.   The coaches were friendly and I liked the overall vibe of the place.”

What have the coaches been talking to him about?

“I talked to Coach Elliot and Coach Morris last week,” said Sandberg.  “They just tell me about Clemson and how it’s a real family oriented school.  It’s a strong Christian team and their overall attitude towards football and everything is great.”

September 1st marks the date coaches can contact juniors.  Sandberg says it has been a little different he has received a lot of mail and has talked to a lot of different coaches.  He thinks USF may be the next school to offer him.

The Manatee High School (FL.) standouts first game was a tough one .  He and his teammates traveled all the way to Washington DC.

“We made the trip to Washington DC to play Good Counsel.  We lost but it was a good experience seeing all the sights like the Lincoln Memorial,” said Sandberg.  “I threw for 240 yards a touchdown and interception.  I played pretty good but I feel like you can always do better after watching the game film.  This week we play Riverview our cross town rival.”
