Clemson in ACC Openers

The Tigers open ACC play Saturday afternoon against Florida State.  Clemson is 34-23-1 all-time record in ACC openers.

Offense on Record Pace

Clemson’s offense is on a record pace in 2011.  The Tigers have had at least 200 yards rushing and 200 passing in the last two games.  Clemson is 55-0-1 when gaining at least 200 in both.

Last week Clemson converted 14-18 third down conversions and 10 in a row at one point.  That is the most third down conversions since 1986.

Clemson is averaging 38.7 points per game.  The record for the Tigers is 34.7 in 2000.  Clemson is averaging five touchdowns per game.  The record is 4.8 in 1950.  Clemson is averaging 3.3 touchdown passes per game.  The record is 2.31 in 2007.

Top 20 Teams Three Weeks in a Row

Last week Clemson defeated No. 19 Auburn.  This week No. 11 Florida State comes to Clemson.  Virginia Tech is currently ranked No. 12.  If Virginia Tech is still in the top 20 next week it will be the first time Clemson has ever played three top 20 teams in a row.

Winning Without Leading at the Half

Clemson has won the last three games while not leading at the half.  That is the first time Clemson has done that in three straight weeks since 2004.

Hopkins in Top 10 in ACC in Receiving

DeAndre Hopkins picked up in 2011 where he left off last season.  As a freshman Hopkins was Clemson’s leading receiver with 52 catches for 637 yards.  So far this season he has 16 catches for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Against Auburn Hopkins had seven catches for 83 yards.

Branch Top Tackler

Andre Branch is the Tiger’s top tackler through three games.  Branch has 22 tackles including a record high 11 against Wofford.

Ellington One Yard from Career High

Clemson running back Andre Ellington has rushed for 300 yards in three games for an average of 5.6 yards per carry.  Andre had 165 yards against Wofford, one yard shy of his career high.
