CLEMSON, SC- Verbal commitment Travis Blanks, the gem of the Tiger’s 2012 recruiting class, is doing a diary with TheClemsonInsider.com. In this edition, we spoke to Travis about his trip up to Death Valley to watch his future teammates take on the Seminoles of Florida State.
Well, I just walked in the door from driving home from Clemson and I am still having trouble hearing after how loud Death Valley was yesterday. I have never visited a campus and went to a football game where the fan base was as loud and excited as Clemson’s fans were. Unlike at other schools that I have visited, at Clemson a lot of younger people attend the games, even after they’ve graduated from Clemson and therefore get crazy loud whenever anything happens. Although I’m not the type to stand up and cheer, I’m very chill, I was very impressed with the effect that the Clemson fan base had on the game, especially in the last few minutes of the game. I’m really excited to be on that field with my future teammates and play in that environment, it doesn’t matter to me if it’s Florida State or any other team, I’m sure it’s still loud in Death Valley. I’m just excited to get up to Clemson for good, period.
My high school team had a bye week this week, so I was able to drive up to Clemson with my mom and step dad Friday, and arrived late Friday night. On Saturday, we spent the morning in the West End Zone, watched the game and then I along with the other commitments were able to talk to some of the players after the game. I know a lot of the current players at Clemson from visiting there several times so it was great to see them and talk to them after such a big win. I even got to speak with Coach Swinney a few times one-on one which was great, he is always as enthusiastic as he is during his post game interviews.
I was very impressed with Clemson’s defense and how they were able to get that last stop against the Seminoles yesterday. Seeing the defense win the game for the Tigers was great. They didn’t give up, and stepped up when they needed to.
As for my commitment to the Tigers, I’m 1000% committed. I cannot wait to get back up to Clemson once I’ve finished high school and start working out with the team. I’m hoping to make an immediate impact and help the team continue to be special.
