Goose Creek (SC) linebacker/safety TJ Burrell has been in Death Valley the last two weeks to see the Tigers pull off two big victories. Although many were surprised about the Tigers success so far Burrell did not seem to be one of them.
“I was at the game last Saturday, first of all, I always love being up there. A lot of recruits were there too,” said Burrell. “They did what they said there were going to do, they got the win. I never doubted them; they just did what they said they were going to do.”
Any highlights of the game?
“The highlight was just being up there and visiting. I love being there every time I come up. I can’t wait to get up there myself,” said Burrell.
Burrell had an opportunity to talk to some of the players and coaches what was their message?
“The coaches were just saying they were happy to have me up there, and talked about how they think I am going to fit in,” said Burrell. “I also got a chance to talk to Robert Smith, Lateek Townsend, and Jonathan Meeks. They were telling me how I will fit in with their team and about the defense. They said if I work hard I should be able to play, especially with most of the safeties being older guys.”
The standout athlete’s commitment didn’t seem extremely solid last time TCI talked, how about now?
“I am firmly all in,” said Burrell.
Burrell has helped his team to a 4-1 record so far, in the four wins his defense has let up 7 points or less. The 6’0” 200 lbs. athlete said he is not sure how many tackles he has but he has an interception, 2 sacks, and a touchdown off a fumble recovery.
