TCI Game Balls - Virginia Tech

By

Clemson moved to 5-0 on the season with a 23-3 victory over Virginia Tech Saturday evening at Lane Stadium.  A number of players had outstanding performance for the Tigers.  Which players performed well enough to earn this week’s awards?

Time to hand out this week’s TCI Game Ball awards.  Each week the TCI staff and the TCI members will hand out game balls for the best performances of the week.

Offensive Player of the Game

Coaching Staff – Dalton Freeman

The coaching staff gave the offensive award this week to center Dalton Freeman.  Dalton along with the other offensive lineman all graded out as winners this week.  Dalton did a good job with the line calls in a very hostile environment.

TCI Staff, TCI Members – Dwayne Allen

Dwayne has quickly gained the nation’s attention as one of the top tight ends.  Dwayne had four catches for 75 yards and a touchdown Saturday evening.  The touchdown put the Tigers up two scores and with the play of the defense rest was history.  Allen also had a couple of big catches to move the chains.

Defensive Player of the Game

Coaching Staff, TCI Staff, TCI Members – Andre Branch

There is no doubt about this one.  Andre Branch had one of the most dominate defensive performance ever for a Tiger.  Branch recorded ten tackles, five tackles for loss and four sacks.

The only negatives were his two penalties in the first half, but he more than made up for those with his performance on defense.

Special Teams Player of the Game

Coaching Staff – Corico Hawkins

This week the coaching staff gave the special teams player of the week to Corico Hawkins who had several key tackles.

TCI Staff, TCI Members – Dawson Zimmerman

It was good to see Dawson back on the field.  Dawson had several key punts Saturday that helped keep Virginia Tech backed up.  He had eight punts for an average of 41 yards.
