Spreading the Ball
One indication of the number of weapons for the Tigers on offense is the number of players with a play of 50 yards are more this season. Clemson has six players that have been involved in eight plays of more than 50 yards so far in 2011. The record is seven players in 2001.
The Tigers became bolw eligible on October 8 with the win over Boston College. That is the earliest the Tigers have ever been bowl eligible.
Defense Coming on Strong
The Clemson defense is coming on strong over the past few weeks. Over the last two weeks teams have just 17 points and each team had just 258 yards of total offense. The Tigers have moved up to No. 24 in the nation in scoring defense.
Scored in 15 Straight Quarters
The Tigers have scored in 15 straight quarters and 22-24 this year. This is the longest streak for the Tigers since 2003. The school record is 20 straight quarters in 1983.
Pearman and Powell Coached at Both Schools
Two assistant coaches for Saturday’s game have coached at both schools. Coach Pearman was an assistant for Maryland in 2008. Andre Powell is now coaching at Maryland after leaving the Tigers after 2010.
