Clemson, SC—Clemson closed the fall ranked 15th in the nation in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Poll.  Clemson is 15th in the nation with 219 poll points.  The Tigers were ranked in the top 25 of each of the last four polls of the fall.

Coach Larry Penley’s  Tigers played a very competitive fall schedule by participating in four national tournaments.  Clemson’s average finish was fourth place and the Tigers posted a 33-14-2 overall record. 

Clemson competed in tournaments against 13 of the top 25 schools in the final fall poll and defeated eight of them, including fourth-ranked Auburn, 12th ranked Southern California, 13th ranked UNLV and 14th ranked Texas A&M. Clemson’s top performance of the fall came at the Jerry Pate Invitational in Birmingham where the Tigers finished second out of 12 schools.

Clemson’s top golfer in the fall was Corbin Mills, who posted a 71.00 stroke average for his four events.  He scored under par in eight of his 12 rounds, including a team best four rounds in the 60s.   He had Clemson’s best score of the day in eight of his 12 rebounds and won the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate.

Senior McCuen Elmore also had a strong fall with a 72.33 stroke average.  He had a team best 11 rounds at 75 or better and had a team best three top 13 finishes, including an eighth place at the Carpet Classic in Dalton, GA.

Clemson will return to the course on Feb. 19 when it competes in the Puerto Rico Classic at Rio Mar Country Club in Puerto Rico.
