The Tigers fell 61-48 in the first round of the Diamond Head Class tournament Thursday afternoon in Hawaii.
K.J. McDaniels had a career high 13 points including two three-pointers. Milton Jennings added 10 points for the Tigers while Tanner Smith added seven.
The Tigers struggled from the field only hitting 30 percent and were only 3-21 from three. UTEP shot 51 percent from the field including 35 percent from three.
Clemson ended the first half on an 8-3 run. Rod Hall hit two free throws to tie the score at 24-24 going into the half.
The Tigers forced 12 first half turnovers. The turnovers were critical in Clemson staying in the game as they shot only 32 percent in the first half including only 10 percent from three.
K.J. McDaniels led the Tigers with ten points at the half going 3-4 from the field. Milton Jennings and Devin Booker each added four first half points.
Clemson started the second half with a 5-0 run. UTEP responded with a 7-2 run to tie the game at 31 with 16 minutes remaining.
Milton Jennings hit a jumper with 13:19 remaining to put Clemson up 40-38. The Tigers would score only eight points in the final 13 minutes as went on a 23-8 run to end the game.
The Tigers fell to 6-5 with the loss to UTEP.
